Enemy In Burma (10.40 p.m ) COLOMBO. July 19. On the lower Sittang River Gurkh«. troops who occupied the Laya railway station were shelled by th/ 1 J panose in Laya, 26 miles north-east oi Pegu on the line from Pegu to Martagan, savs a South-east Asia communique. Our troops established several patrol bases in the area. Around Myitkyo, 29 miles north-north-east of P*‘gu, the Japanese reacted vigorously to attempts to probe their strongpoints in this sector. The enemy has not contested our occupation of certain villages, indicating a tendency to coircrve his forces and play for time.
