Timaru Club Report The annual report of the Timaru Bowling Club states: Membership: The membership at the close of the season was: sever, honorary and 88 active. Two members. Messrs Les Hunt and A. Lawson, are serving with the Forces. Obituary: It was with regret that during tlie season the club 'ost two esteemed members, Messrs F. W. Clarke (life member) and R- Moore. The sympathy of members was extended to their relatives. Green: Through the untiring energies of the green supervisor, Mr L. Edyvean, and Mr A. Gillum, the green keeper, the green played excellently during the season. The executive thanks all members who so willingly gave their time after the close of the season in preparing the green for next season; also members who kept the flower plots in order. Club competitions: The following were the winners of the Club competitions: Singles champion, A. Black; champion pairs, J. S. Lee (s), R. B. Hart: champion rinks, N. Thomson (s), C. 11. Manning, J. Sligo, H. W. Brownie; junior champion, G. T. Wardell; Bruce doubles, A. Robertson (s) and H. Graham, Jr.: handicap pairs, H. Patchett, W. Thomas; handicap singles. R. D. Millar; percentage fours (Wilson Cup), J. Black <s), R. Wilson, G. T. Wardell. W. Thomas; Brown buttons, H. J. Washer (s), L. B. James. Thanks were due to Mr R. B. Hart, who gave prizes for the runners-up in the senior and junior championships, N. Thomson and F. Oxford respectively. The Club was successful in winning the Leslie Gold Cup (Centre Fours Competition). Finance: Tlie finances of the Club are in a sound position. The Executive, after full consideration, transferred the mortgage to the Bank of New Zealand, which took over this liability, and henceforth the Club will operate on a bank overdraft. Tlie Sinking Fund paid £3O of its balance into the Club funds to assist in reducing the overdraft. The balance of assets over liabilities after allowing £l6/8/6 for depreciation, is £1367/18/7. Appreciation: The Club expresses appreciation to the Ladies’ Club, the ladies who so willingly helped with the afternoon tea on Saturdays; the delegates to the South Canterbury Centre, Messrs L. Edyvean and W. D. Olney; the auditor, Mr W. J. Cotterill; selector. Mr J. S. Lee, Match Committee, Messrs L. Edyvean, R. D. Millar, and J. S. Lee: the newspapers, and all who helped to make the season so successful. “With the war in Europe at an end, and with the Pacific war moving ever more rapidly in favour of the Allies, we confidently look forward to the return of peace, and with it the resumption of normal bowling activities.”
