GERALDINE EUROPE IS COLD AND HUNGRY

Urgent Appeal For Clothing Collection By Scouts And Guides “There is an urgent need for clothing for the distressed people of Europe." states an appeal which has been issued to Geraldine residents by the Red Cross over the signatures of Mrs K. 11. Orbell (Red Cross denot sunerviser), the Rev. i E. R. E. Ross (Group Scoutmaster), Mrs 11. V. Firman (Guide Captain) and the Mavor of Geraldine (Mr D. C. McKechnie). A collection of clothing will be made by the Bov Scouts and Girl Guides on Saturday in the Geraldine Borough and Raukapuka, and clothing may be left at the Red Cross depot on Friday afternoon. “Europe is cold! Europe is hungry! Europe is sick!” continues the appeal. “Protracted hunger and inadequate shelter and clothing breed disease. Winter is coming and millions will die of hunger and cold if relief does not race the frost and snow. One way m which we in New Zealand can help is ! by providing clothing for these people. ‘ “If one garment were provide' by each person in every household it would go some way toward meeting this need. Any garments that are clean and still serviceable will do. Give garments that you are proud to give in view of the need and would be glad to receive if you were in similar circumstances. Many of you will have already given, but, a search through drawers and wardrobes will surely find something vou can be glad to show.” Red Cross workers will dispatch the clothing to Europe at an early date.
