WAIMATE APPEALS HEARD

Armed Forces Board A Long Sitting The No. 108 Armed Forces Appeal Board held a sitting at Waimate yesterday. which occupied the whole day. Appeals in respect o£ farmers and farm workers were dealt with. A further sitting of the Board will take place to-day. Mr K. Mackenzie presided, and associated with him were Messrs S. G. McClelland, H. Cook and H. Fleetwood (Crown representative). The appeal by the Director of National Service for William Lawrence Watts, tractor driver, was withdrawn by leave of the Board. After a rehearing of the appeal by the Director for Arthur Ernest Meyer, the case was adjourned for review on July 31, 1945. The appeal for James Joseph Donnelly, farm hand, Willowbridge (Director) Is to be reviewed on May 31; Trevor Ivor McLaren, reviewed jn July 31, and efforts to be made to replace the reservist; Kenneth Sumner Brightwell, farm hand, Waikakahi (Director) to be reviewed on July 31; Esmonde Francis Martin, farm labourer, Waikakahi (Director), to be reviewed m July 31. Warm Welcome Residents lined the route along Queen Street late yesterday afternoon when members of a draft of servicemen from the Middle East returned home. Phe men were met at Studholme Junc:ion and conveyed in cars to their nomes. Flags were flown, and itreamers stretched across Queen Street. Numbering 18, the draft was me of the largest yet to be returned to Waimate. Personal Mr A. J. Sheddan, Waihao Downs, ras received advice of the promotion of lis son. Pilot Officer C. J. Sheddan, to :he rank of flying officer.
