WASHDYKE PRIZE-GIVING AND CONCERT
School Functions The Washdyke Hall was crowded for the annual school concert. Each item was well received and reflected credit on both children and teachers. The programme was:—Opening choruses by seniors; “Nursery Rhyme Fair” by infants; sailor songs by Stds. 1,2 and 3; play, “Shrimps for Tea,” by seniors; folk dancing by seniors; play, "Father Christmas Comes to Tea," by Stds. 2 and 3; songs by infants; play, “Pulling Sam’s Tooth,” by seniors; character song, “Baggy Breeches”; choral speaking by infants; play, “The Test,” by Stds. 1,2 and 3;' drill, “Awkward Squad,” by seniors; choral recitation by Stds. 1 and 2; banjo solo by William Bell; play, “Toys’ Party,” by infants; tap dance by Janet Peebles; operetta, “Gipsy Gay,” by seniors; songs, Stds. 1,2 and 3. At the conclusion Mr L. A. McDufi, chairman of the committee, thanked the audience for their attendance, the teachers for training the children, and the children for their very creditable performance.
The break-up ceremony was held at the school on Wednesday afternoon. After a sports programme Father Christmas arrived and distributed toys from a well-laden Christmas tree to the pupils of the infant room and to children below school age. Mrs McDufi presented prizes as follows:—Dux of school, Jean Cloughley; sewing prizes, Jean Cloughley (Mrs Smith’s prize), Dorothy Falvey (Mrs McMillan’s prize), Thelma Ward, Shona Walsh. Athletic certificates and Form II certificates were also distributed. Following were the results of the sports programme:— Boys’ events—Under 5: C. Wilson 1, K. Bennet 2, T. Cartwright 3; 5 years: A. Kellahan 1, D. Cartwright 2; »6 years: T. James 1, J. Kelliher 2, G. Robinson 3; 7 years: J. Wilson 1, T. Walsh 2, K. Murphy 3; 8 years: S. Field 1, A. Walsh 2, L. Campbell 3; 9 years: B. Bennet 1, A. Ward 2, G. Bell 3; 10 years: I. Shaw 1, J. Donald 2, I. Falvey 3; 11 years: B. McDufi 1; 12 years: D. McDuff 1, E. Peebles 2, J. Wilson 3; 13 years: W. Bennet 1, W. Bell 2, D. Shaw 3; 14 years: T. Peebles 1, P. Robinson 2; old boys: J. McNamara.
