Waipiata Sanatorium COMMITTEE APPROVES PLANS At the monthly meeting of the Waipiata Sanatorium Committee there were present Messrs. E. Macdonald (chairman), R. Oakley, W. C. Davis, J. W. Miller, J. Rodman. S. A. Stevens, T. Golden and W. Sutherland. The chirman referred to the death of Mr Alexander Rennie, who had represented the South Otago Hospital Board on the committee for the 19361938 term, and a resolution of sympathy was passed. The Medical Superintendent, Dr. A Kidd, reported that during August, 25 patients had been admitted, 26 were discharged, one had died, and’l32 were in the institution at the end of the month. He recommended as suitable for admission to the Sanatorium, seven patients from Southland, three from South Canterbury, and one from Vincent. The architect’s plans for the proposed alterations nd additions to the rear line of men’s shelters were approved, and he was instructed to prepare and submit final plans to the Department for Ministerial consent. The supervisor of piggeries, Invercargill, submitted a report on the Committee's piggery, and recommended that a new piggery be erected on modern lines. The question of selecting a new site was left in the hands of the Farm Committee and manager. The secretary reported that on September 26, the Associated Boards had patients in the institutions as follows: — Southland 73, South Canterbury 26. Ashburton seven, Waitaki 17. South Otago 10, Vincent four, Maniotato one —a total of 138. Since the previous meeting five patients from three hosnital districts had been discharged, and there was a waiting list of 12 patients from three districts. The treasurer submitted statements of the receipts and payments showing that on August 31, there was a credit balance of £12.992 11/2, including an amount of £lO.OOO invested on fixed deposit for capital works not yet commenced. Statements of receipts and payments for the five months ended August 31. as compared with the amounts estimated for the period were also submitted, the actual maintenance receipts being £312 1 10 and the actual maintenance payments £329-5 6 more than the estimates.
