Losses Since Pearl Harbour
(Rec. 7.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Oct. 2. “The American Air Forces have dropped 1,000,000 tons of bombs on our enemies since Pearl Harbour, of which almost half have been dropped since D Day.” Disclosing this. General H. H. Arnold, Chief of the United States Air Forces, said that the second 1,000,000 tons of bombs would be dropped in a fraction of the time required for the first. The American Air Forces had destroyed 27.000 enemy planes at a cost of 14,600, but accidents had increased the total of their own losses to approximately 42.000. The American Air Forces had lost 1460 planes on combat missions, and 9000 in overseas non-combat missions, while operation? l , losses in the United States totalled 17,500. These resulted from training, transport and patrol accidents.
