Welcome Home Social A social and dance was held in the Upper Waitohi School to welcome home Gunner R. W. Pearse, recently returned from overseas. The Grand March was headed by the guest of honour and partner. Monte Carlo waltzes were won by Miss C. Draffin and Mr L. Draffin and Miss L. Crombie and Mr L. Draffin. Mr A. Watson said that he was pleased to see such a big attendance. It was a fitting reception for the guest who answered his country's call as his lather had done in the last war. He (Gunner Pearsei had been taken prisoner rather early in his military career and had to endure the hardships oi a prisoner of war camp. However. esea Pe and all were delighted to see him fit and well. Speeches of welcome were also made, by Messrs G. Gould. D. Smith and A. J. Davey who, on behalf of the district presented Gunner Pearse with an envelope containing money. On rising to reply Gunner Pearse received a tremendous ovation. He expressed thanks for the presentation, the good wishes which accompanied it and also tor the delightful evening an anged in his honour.
