FIRE BRIGADES
Reorganisation Urged
(N.Z.P.A.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 2. The Minister for Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry), addressing the United Fire Brigades Association Conference, urged members to give careful consideration to the proposals for reorganisation of the control of fire-fighting, which had already been before the Fire Boards’ Conference. He repudiated the idea that the Government intended to abolish fire boards. They could do without more boards, but should leave those already formed. A national board should be set up to control smaller bodies throughout the country and avoid duplication and unnecessary bodies. They wanted an organisation so that in time of earthquake, flood or fire on a large scale, forces could be marshalled where required.
