MUST KEEP FAITH
Quick, Combined Action Needed (N.Z.PA.) WELLINGTON. Sept. 14. “D> not let us make the fatal mistake of leaving action cn the Viclcrv Loan to the other
Action—and quick. combined action—is required, not merely nice talk and thoughts." Tliis wp» the advice given last night by Mr R. C. Addison, resident inspector of the Bank of New South Wales and chairman of the Associated Trading Banks of New Zealand. Probably there had never been such unanimity among citizens of all classes regarding the method of raising the loan, a method under which the very grave effects of inflation could be most effectively avoided, said Mr Addison. It might be asked, he continued. what are the trading banks contributing from the very’ large sums they hold at present? Briefly, the reason was that large subscriptions from the banks were regarded as inflationary. “I mav add that the banks have quietly fallen in with this view and are. therefore, concentrating on doing whatever they’ can do in other ways throughout their large network of branches in New Zealand to jnake the Victory Loan an outstanding success. I would particularly appeal to all large companies, societies, business firms and well-to-do individuals to make special contributions to this particular loan required for what is probably the peak of our wartime finance." After stressing the point that investment in the war loan was an obligation for everyone, Mr Addison suggested that in matters of daily life we were all keenly’ resentful at any suggestion that we had not kept faith. Had we not to keep faith with our Allies, with England and all the Empire and with our servicemen and women? We must not risk any chance of it ever being said, "that New Zealand let us down." or even that "New Zealand really did not do very’ well."
