TEMUKA SETS RECORD

Bond Waggon Visit Nets £1043

“Temuka has done twice as well as any town of comparative size so far on our trip. You have apparently some public-spirited citizens in your town and I must congratulate vou upon doing nearly as well as Blenheim, a town many times your size.” said the manager-com-pere of the “Bond Waggon.” Sergeant E. Hegan, when it was announced amid cheers that the sum of £lOl9 had been invested as a result of the visit of the Bond Waggon party to Temuka yesterday. In welcoming the party, the Mayor ,Mr L. F. Robins) said he was sure Temuka residents were appreciative of the visit of the Bond Waggon and would respond by making their best efforts to raise money for the Victory War Loan, thus making the visit fully worthwhile. Money was required to carry on the war. The total of £73,000 allotted to this district seemed a large sum but he was sure that Temuka would not fail. "It is not our job to sell bonds, but to assist your local Loan Committee by providing' entertainment,” said Sergeant Hegan, in introducing the artists, who provided an attractive variety programme from the waggon stage. Songs were given by W.R.E.N. Esme Pedder, W.A.A.C. Joyce Cameron, and Private Colin Campbell. Comedian Staff Sergeant Lamb kept the audience in roars of laughter. Private Gorman provided accompaniments on his pianoaccordion After the entertainment, the loud speaker was taken over by Mr H. B. Strange, who made a call for investments. The sum of £ ( 1019 had been promised before the departure of the waggon and a further £24 came to hand shortly afterwards.
