READY FOR BERLIN
Special British Staffs (Rec. 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 6. The British Foreign Office has a special staff ready to go to Berlin at short notice. The diplomatic correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says all Government Departments connected witli the post-war administration of Germany are hastening special arrangements because they believe that they may be called upon to act very soon. The correspondent adds: “Experts from various Ministries are now standing by ready to move to Europe. Months ago it was considered unlikely that their services would be required before the middle of October, but preparations are now being rushed to synchronise with the rapid advance of the Allied armies toward Germany.” The correspondent says that one of Britain’s key men in Germany will probably be Ivone Kirkpatrick. He is the man who interviewed Hess on behalf of the British Government immediately .after he parachuted into Scotland in May. 1941. Before the war he was counsellor at the British Embassy in Berlin, and he has an exceptional knowledge of the German people. Kirkpatrick is believed to have been chosen as one of the chief civilian administrators of Germany under the military authorities.
