CRICKET NAVY v. AIR FORCE
Sailors Give Impressive Display (N.Z.P.A.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 14. Though regarded as facing a stiff hurdle, the Navy gave an impressive showing on the first of a two-day match with the Air Force which began on the Basin Reserve to-day on a fast wicket. A sound innings by the Navy captain and an Auckland Plunket Shield player, H. T. Pearson (91), laid the foundation for a good total, the side reaching 253. W. Hoar (ex Wairarapa) was the most successful bowler. At stumps the Air Force had scored 66 for three wickets. Prentice, an Aucklander, secured three wickets, including that of Kerr. The Auckland representaitve was also very successful with bat and ball at recent representative matches against Wellington and Canterbury. Scores; NAVY First Innings J. A.
