DUNEDIN, Jan. 14.
The eighth day’s play in the South Island Croquet Tournament was held at the Watea lawns in cold and boisterous weather, with intermittent rain showers.
All sections have now been concluded except the final of the Women's Championship, which will be played this morning, the finalists being Mrs Palmer (Christchurch) and Mrs Knox (Watea). Considerable interest was shown in the finals of the Level Singles and the Handicap Singles. In the Level Singles Mrs Stockdale (Christchurch) 26 defeated Mrs Bonar (Christchurch) 11, and in the Handicap event the winner was Mrs McCracken (West Coast), who defeated Mrs Pepper (Christchurch) 26 points to 16. The following are to-day’s results in the Women’s Championship:— Mrs Grant (Christchurch) 26, beat Mrs Brown (Christchurch) 14; Mrs Palmer (Christchurch) 26, beat Mrs Holmes (Southland) 25. Semi-final
Mrs Knox (Watea) 26, beat Mrs Pepper (Christchurch) 15. Mrs Palmer (Christchurch) 26, beat Mrs Grant (Christchurch) 15.
