Light rain fell for a few hours last night and it set in again this morning, though so far there has not been enough to have much effect on the tracks, which remain hard. L. Cavalier is breaking in a yearling colt by Defaulter from the imported mare. Princess Argosy, a Great Autumn Handicap winner. Cavalier will train the colt later for his breeder, Mr J. M. Samson. Lord Advocate, Justitia and St. Nattar were sore when they returned from their holiday racing and H. Nurse is treating them to a spell before he starts to get them ready for their autumn engagements. Though he has no horses to race, C. C. McCarthy has gone to Trentham, to attend the yearling sales. He took Tutere with him and the Mr Standfast gelding who was lame after the Members’ Handicap, the final event at the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting, has been sent back to his owner for a long spell.
