FOR HOT AND COLD CLIMATES
Special Tinned Foods For Troops
(Rec. 8.5 p.m.) LONDON. Jan. 12. Self-heating soup, special tinned foods for troops fighting in the jungle and tinned foods that help prisoners of war in Germany were demonstrated to 399 men and women from food canning factories in London with the object of conveying the importance of their work. A War Office analyst demonstrated self-heating soup, which is contained in a tin with a fuse down the middle. He lit the fuse and within four minutes poured out piping hot soup. He explained that the object was to provide a hot drink for troops fighting in cold conditions who could not light a fire. “It is a triumph of British skill.'’ he said. “Both the Germans and Americans previously tried it. Tire Americans were so impressed with self-heating soup that they bought 1,900,609 tins."
