WORK TO RESUME
Dispute At Coal Mines
Pay-sheets Not Available
(N.Z.P.A.) GREYMOUTH. Jan. 13. In spite of the decision last evening to resume work to-day at all mines, only the Dobson and Blackball mines are working this morning. Tile miners at Liverpool and at the Strongman mines declined to w’ork owing to the pay-sheets not being available at the mines. It is customary to have pay-sheets given the men on the morning before pay-day. The Wallsend colliery is idle because of the accumulation of gas in one section, but not in working places. It is expected that w’ork wall be resumed at all mines to-morrow. Request By Miners Granted (N.Z.P.A.) WESTPORT, January 13. The Coal Commission (Messrs C. Strongman and A. Prendeville) sat at Millerton yesterday to go into the dispute between the Millerton Miners' Union and the management in regard to having a run of coal for home consumption. After a long debate lasting from 2.30 p.m. until 6.30 p.m. it was decided by the council that the miners’ request should be granted relative to the position of the resident. Mr Prendeville communicated with the Minister of Manpower (the Hon. A. McLagan) to-day and got an assurance to the Union that a doctor would be dispatched to Millerton at an earlv date. This decision Was satisfactorily received by the Union. It was decided by the Miners’ Union to call a general meeting of the Miners' Union at Millerton to-night at 7.30 o’clock. The members decided at the meeting that, owing to the absence of Birchfield and Granity members, they would adjourn the meeting until 11 a m. to-morrow.
