ST. PAUL’S CHURCH

Successful Year The annual meeting of the congregation of St. Paul's Church, Highfield, was held on Tuesday night and was fairly well attended. The Rev. lan Borrie, M.A., presided. Out of respect to those who had passed away during the year, those present stood for a minute in silence. After referring to the splendid work done in improving the manse, Mr Borrie paid a. tribute to those who were responsible for carrying on the work of the church. He referred to the excellent work done by the two previous ministers —the Rev. A. Begg and Rev. J. Baird—and with the cooperation of the congregation he hoped to carry on the work so ably done by them. He was endeavouring to get' those who did not come to church to do so, and was trying to meet the needs of the people. He appealed for their help and cooperation and he trusted that the work of God in this place which had been so well done by his predecessors, would be maintained. The gospel of Jesus Christ must be preached in these troublous times. He thought they had reason to believe the end of the war was approaching and he hoped before their next annual meeting it would be over and they then would have opportunities of building up the Kingdom of Gcd. It. was dangerous *o go on in the usual way. but they should be prepared for the tremendous problems of [ neare and the v. crk of rehabilitation. There would be the challenge of consecration and service. He spoke of the difficulties of the younger generation. They would have their trials and temptations and th'* church should do all it could to help them. The youth work was tremendouslv important and they should help them to face the future with conlidence. The reports of Session and Deacons’ Court were adopted. All the organisations wore reported to be flourishing and those responsible for their efforts were thanked. It was decided to hold the usual flower show.
