ORARI At the August meeting of the Orari Women’s Institute Mrs Macdonald presided. Members were reminded that gifts for the lepers were to be brought next month. Mrs Bennett was thanked for her comprehensive report on the Dominion conference. A “golden thread” talk was given by Mrs Unwin on her birthplace, Bromley, Kent, England. An account of her travels about New Zealand and of the many different classes of work she had been doing 'll the war years was given by Miss Unwin. Mrs Macdonald brought to the meeting one of the blankets given by Orari Red Cross and Institute members to be sent to J. Hewson and O. Bennett, local prisoners of war. It was decided to run a sales table in aid of the funds at the next meeting. Mrs Unwin was the winner of a game arranged by Miss White. The winners of the competitions were: Single bloom, Mrs Scott 1, Mrs Macdonald 2, Miss Black 3; cluster, Mrs Carter 1, Mrs Bennett 2, Mrs Marshall and Miss Black (equal) 3; jam jar of flowers, Mrs Watson 1, Mrs Carter and Mrs Bennett (equal) 2; primrose, Mrs Pine 1, Miss Black 2, Mrs Bennett, Mrs Elliot, Mrs Scott and Mrs Watson (equal) 3.
