ALLANDALE INSTITUTE Mrs R. Wareing presided over the monthly meeting of the Allandale Women’s Institute. A letter of congratulation is to be sent to Mrs Bush on the birth of a daughter. Best wishes were extended to Mrs Bishop on her recent marriage. Regret was expressed at the illness of Mrs Guilford. The request of the institute for the railway bus to run alternate days through Middle Valley had been granted. Letters of thanks for parcels received were read from Sapper S. Allom and Seaman W. Stevens. The social half-hour was arranged by Misses O’Connor and Crampton, competitions being won by Mrs T. Crampton and Mrs A. Hall. The following officers were elected: Vice-presidents, Mrs T. Crampton and Mrs J. O’Neill; hostess convener, Mrs T. Dobson; sales table, Mrs Mclntosh; competitions, Misses O’Connor and Crampton; press correspondent, Mrs J. O’Neill.
The monthly competitions were won as follows: Jar of preserved fruit, Mrs T. Dobson 1. Miss Crampton 2; sponge roll, Mrs McConnell 1; bloom. Mrs O’Connor; quoits, Mrs A. Hall; housce. Miss T. O’Connor.
