RICCARTON NOTES

(Special) CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 27. Four yearling which were bought by Mr J. S. Shaw at the Trentham sales will go into Riccarton stables. A client of G. Ridgway will race two of these youngsters. A Defaulter colt, who cost 280 guineas, is from Privet, an Australian-bred mare by Rizzio. A filly by Foxbridge, bought for 275 guineas, is from Arawa Rose, by Musketoon from Wee Rose, who traces to Locket. R. Wilson may train the other pair that Shaw purchased. Miss Sutherland is the owner of a Golden Eagle colt, whose price was 250 guineas. He is closely related to Beau Vaals, his dam, Amyril, being by Psychology. The fourth yearling cost 55 guineas and is owned by Mr J. Mussen, who raced Willow Wood before he went to Auckland. He is a colt by Inflation from Sweet Music, by Niggel Minstrel from Kilmiss. In addition to the pair which Shaw bought, G. Ridgway will have a third yearling to handle. This is a Night Raid colt, passed in at auction at 180 guineas but later sold privately by Mr K. Austin to Mr C. G. Tansey. His dam is Charlotte Corday, by Shambles from Charmilia. D. Cotton is home from Trentham, where his three horses raced without any luck. Fur Coat looks very well and he should perform well in the autumn. Botany has lightened up but he will be kept going with the Middlepark Plate at his next engagement. Stourbridge did not do well on the trip and he is to have a spell for a few months before being prepared for .spring engagements.
