PROFIT OF £1582

Record Bay Carnival Receipts Donation To Timaru Patriotic Fund A cheque for £1582/ 8/11, which represents a record net profit to be made by the Caroline Bay Association and one of the largest single donations to be received by the Patriotic Fund, was handed by Mr W. Best, president of the Association, to the Mayor, Mr A. E. S. Hanan, yesterday.

In handing over the cheque. Mr Best said the Association was particularly well pleased with the result of this year’s carnival, and a great deal of its success was due to the voluntary helpers who had worked so hard to make the carnival such an outstanding success. He made particular reference to the women helpers of the Association and it had been a new departure to have women assistants. He also thanked the St. John Ambulance, the bands, and the untiring efforts of the secretary, Mr H. L. Warsaw. Mr Best also referred to the excellent spirit which prevailed during the carnival period.

“On behalf of the Patriotic Fund and the people of Timaru, I wish to thank you for this magnificant donation,” said Mr Hanan. “I would also like to thank the liberal spenders as this donation will go a long way to swell the patriotic funds of this district. We look upon Caroline Bay as an asset to Timaru, and, as one of the senior members of the Bay Association, I can appreciate the vast amount of work which goes into the carnival.

“The Patriotic Funds go a long way to make the lives of our men in the Fighting Forces a happier one,” Mr Hanan concluded. “Our petrol, tea and sugar rations are trivial compared with the sacrifices that our men are undergoing. The exploits of these men swell our hearts with joy and our tongues with praise.”
