DIVE-BOMBING
Australian Pilots Learning The Art N.Z.P.A.—Special Australian Correspondent (Rec. 10.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 26. R.A.A.F. pilots are being instructed in dive-bombing tactics at the largest school of instruction of its kind in the South Pacific. Tire students are all experienced fliers who have been specially selected to master the technique of this most exacting of all flying operations. Australian built Wirraways are proving well suited for divebombing. As eacli contingent completes its training the instructors and trainees are posted together to operational stations and experienced divebomber pilots are recalled from the forward areas to take charge of the succeeding groups of trainees. Since dive-bombing is designed essentially for offensive warfare, the news of the expansion of this arm of the R.A.A.F. points to a quickening of the Allied air offensive north of Australia. Divebombing is the most accurate form of aerial bombardment and is particularly effective against shipping and fixed land defences.
