Australian Proposals (7.30 p.m.) CANBERRA, Jan. 21. Tlie social service plan that is being prepared by the Federal Government is understood to provide for spending £60,000,000 in the next three years. Details are expected to be announced by the Treasurer when Parliament meets next week. The plan, it is said, will provide for a first instalment of expenditure of £30,000,000, the remaining £30,000,000 to be spread over the remainder of the three-year term. Federal circles regard the plan as the Government’s answer to those who demand an improved social system and a guarantee of social security alter the war. The proposals arc believed to provide lor: (.1) Improved repatriation rights, including pensions for service women. (2) Sustenance lor servicemen between demobilisation and civilian reemployment and high service pensions. (3) National health and medical services. (4) Maternal and child welfare Services and pre-natal and post-natal payments to mothers. (5) Unemployment benefits and a national housing plan.
