TIMELY RESCUE
Woman Saved From Drowning Prompt Action By Young Men If It had not been for the prompt action of two young Timaru men, Messrs Allan Moore and Ross Hunt, there would have been a drowning fatality at Butler’s Crossing, near Pleasant Point this week. Hearing the cries of a woman in distress in the deep pool in the Opihi River at the crossing, the young men, who had left the water a short time before, and who were not far from the pool, lost no time in going to the rescue. It is thought that the woman was going down “for the third time” when she was caught, the application of artificial respiration being necessary before she later revived. There was no one else in the vicinity at the time who could have gone to her assistance, and it was a stroke of good fortune that the young men heard her cries. Of unassuming dispositions, neither man would make any comment when approached by a “Timaru Herald” representative yesterday. “There’s nothing much to it,” said one of them, while the other, who verified the facts said, “It was the only thing that we could do.”
