GERALDINE SOLDIERS RETURN
Warm Welcome At Orari Station Two Geraldine soldiers from the Middle East, Privates E. H. Waller and Athol Wills, were given a warm welcome home at Orari yesterday when they were met by their relatives and representatives of the patriotic organisations. Among those present to meet the men were:—Mrs J. M. H. Tripp (Commandant of the Geraldine County Red Cross), the Mayor (Mr D. C. McKechnie), Mr A. J. Kennedy (secretary of the Returned Services’ Association). Mr P. G. Withers (secretary of the Geraldine-Temuka Zone Patriotic Committee), Mr W. E. Patrick (chairman of the Gapes Valley Patriotic Committee). Mrs Patrick, and Mr Robert Morrison. OCTOGENARIAN CATCHES SALMON The first salmon to be caught on the .south bank at the Rangitata mouth this season was secured by the wellknown octogenarian angler. Mr J. Wain, on Saturday morning. It weighed 16 pounds. A number of rods were out at the mouth during the week-end and a second fish of 12 pounds was caught by a Temuka angler on Sunday. RANGITATA-ORARI RABBIT BOARD The committee set up to go into the question of establishing a Rabbit Control Board in the Rangitata-Orari district is constituted as follows: Chairman. Mr J. H. Pollock; secretary. Mr J. R. McLeod; committee, Messers J. M. Polhill, V. Bowker, M. Metcalf, G. Edgar, F. H. Ruddenklau, R. B. Morrison and W. Buchan. A petition is now being circulated in the district and. when the signatures of 50 per cent of the ratepayers have been obtained, it will be forwarded to the Department of Agriculture. If the petition is successful, a Rabbit Control Board will be elected by vote of the ratepayers. It will consist of five members and an ex officio representative of the Department of Agriculture.
