TEMUKA MEN FROM CAMPS
Labour For Harvesting A preliminary survey of camping sites for men of the Armed Forces who will be available for harvesting operations in the Temuka district was made on Saturday when a representative of the military authorities met the president of the Temuka Primary Production Committee (Mr Jas. Woodhead) and the Mayor (Mr W. H. McMillan) in Temuka. An inspection was made of the Domain and the officer concerned expressed a most favourable opinion of the facilities provided. It Ls estimated that harvesting work will be available for 100 and 150 men in the district. HOSPITAL TRAIN No Temuka soldiers returned by the hospital train which passed through Temuka yesterday afternoon. It was expected that Private E. J. Downes would be on the train and arrangements were made for a suitable reception to be given to him. It was found, however, that he had remained in Christchurch.
