TRADE SCHOOLS
Visit By Hon. P. C. Webb AUCKLAND, Jan. 8. A visit to the State footwear and carpentry trade schools in Auckland was made yesterday by the Minister of Labour, the Hon. P. C. Webb. The footwear school has trained 115 persons since it was opened in July, 1941, and has placed them in footwear factories. The carpentry school is instructing its second draft of 24 trainees, the first 24 at present being taught house-building at Avondale. Since it was opened the footwear school has produced 4000 pairs of military boots. 4000 pairs of military sandals, and 1000 pairs of civilian boots and shoes. In addition, it has cut and machined thousands of pairs of military footwear for local manufacture.
