RAIDS OVER BRITAIN

Casualties On Isle Of Wight

LONDON, Jan. 3

It is officially stated that this afternoon a few enemy aircraft dropped bombs on the Isle of Wight. Damage was done and there were casualties, some being fatal. Bombs were also dropped at a place on the south-east coast of England, but little damage was caused, and no one was seriously injured. Eight persons were killed when six Messerschmitts on Saturday afternoon swooped down on a quiet town in the south-west, and bombed the shopping centre. Shops were reduced to heaps of rubble. Rescue squads are still digging to-night for people trapped in the debris.
