TRIBUTE TO BRAVERY
Americans Decorated (N.Z.P.A.) AUCKLAND. Dec. 31. Lined up in a hollow square in the Domain to-day. United States Navy and Army personnel paid honour to eight wounded men who were recipients of the notable United States Army decoration, the Purple Heart. The awards were received from Colonel Frank V. Schneider, Commanding Officer of United States Army troops in New Zealand, who said the sacrifices made would not be in vain, as a fine example has been set for their comrades in arms. Those honoured were: Corporal M. L. Peterson, Corporal T. W. Pritchard. Privates (First-class) H. A. Amsterberg and F. F. Nemer. and Privates L. N. Hanson, O. J. Peterson, D. R. Storms and G. M. Zitzks.
After the presentation, a New Zealand Army camp band gave a spectacular exhibititon of marching.
