CRICKET WIN FOR SOUTH CANTERBURY

Ashburton Beaten On

First Innings

Sound Bowling And Fielding

South Canterbury beat Ashburton at Ashburton on Saturday by 108 runs on the first innings. Batting first, South Canterbury made 193 to which Ashburton replied with 85 and, following on, had lost six wickets for 135 runs when stumps were drawn. D. Monaghan 41 (including three fours), and G. Fitzgerald who carried his bat for 50, including eight fours, batted well for South Canterbury, as did A. Brooker and G. Annear. Saunders and Jaffray bowled well for Ashburton and the fielding was good. Ashburton began badly and sound bowling and fielding was a contributing factor to South Canterbury’s win. After the first few overs. Brooker and Fitzgerald bowled unchanged through the innings. Ashburton did better in its second strike but “the fat was already in the fire.” Scores:
