SUPPLY SHIP SUNK

N.Z. Squadron In Action LONDON. December 30. A New Zealand Hampden torpedobomber squadron sank another German supply ship off Stadlandet, Norway, on Tuesday, bringing the total to nine. One aircraft, piloted by a former Wimbledon tennis player, FlightLieutenant - A. J. Mottram, members of the crew including Flight Sergeant F. McPherson (Rotorua), E. A. Hurley (New’ Plymouth), and a second aircraft captained by a Danish pilot, the crew including Sergeant D. E. Nelson (Masterton) sighted a convoy of three supply ships, accompanied by four flak ships. They attacked the biggest ship, encountering fierce anti-aircraft fire; then after dropping torpedoes entered low clouds. Returning after some minutes they saw a ship with its bows pointing shorewards, almost hidden in a cloud of smoke. Flak hit the Danish pilot’s aircraft, but it reached its base safely.
