Comforts On Monowai Except in the Middle East, where probably most of the New Zealand soldiers are stationed, the men are able to get cigarettes and tobacco out of bond without having to pay duty, Mrs W. G. Tweedy reported to a meeting of the Timaru Patriotic Committee last evening. Mrs Tweedy also reported that after receiving complaints that a man on board the Monowai had not received any comforts from the Patriotic Fund in 14 months she had referred the matter to the Board. The secretary replied that there was no foundation for the statement. On the contrary, the ship had received generous treatment. Lady Galway Guild The report of the Women’s Patriotic Committee stated that the depot received from the mills 181 b natural, 541 b navy and 511 b khaki wools and sent to Canterbury Patriotic Council 88 scarves, five dozen pairs socks, five dozen pairs puttee hose and to the Navy League. Wellington, 52 pairs seaboot stockings, 48 pairs socks, 20 pairs gloves and 14 pairs string gloves. The Lady Galway Guild resumed after the holidays. All parcels received from the house to house drive have now been dealt with. During the month a further consignment was dispatched overseas. A further 42 cases are packed ready awaiting shipment.
