RAIDS OVER GERMANY

Hanover And Emden Pounded LONDON. January 27. Royal Air Force bombers last night attacked Hanovei - and Emden in force Other places in north-west Germany were also attacked, and another force of bombers attacked the docks at Brest for the third night in succession. Three aircraft are missing from these operations. Bombers’ crews operating over northwest Germany last night had to contend with intense cold, their machines being covered in ice. Their target areas were recognisable only by the roads and rivers black against the snow-covered country, and the moonlight on the frozen lakes. Over Bremen, night fighters came up to meet the British bombers, one being shot down and another damaged The Berlin radio stated that British bombers last night penetrated as far as the outer districts of Berlin. No bombs were dropped. Tire R.A.F. also raided towns in north Germany It is officially stated that there is nothing to report of any enemy air activity over Britain last night. A later message says that Brest and Boulogne were again heavily attacked. This was the third night in succession that Brest had been oombed. All the British aircraft returned safely.
