Streets Primed The priming of Llsava Avenue. Rolleston and Lysaght ’Streets, preparatory to sealing, has been completed by the Borough Council staff. Fire Brigade Called Out A thick volume of smoke from a rubbish fire at the rear of the premises of Mr G. Griffiths in Stafford Street South last evening, led a passerby to give an alarm. Two engines turned out, but were soon back at headquarters. Appeal For Binoculars In response to the appeal of the Army Department for binoculars and telescopes, 17 binoculars and three telescopes were handed in at the Tlmaru Post Office up to yesterday morning, advises the Chief Postmaster (Mr C. W. Browne). Two of the Instruments are gifts, 14 are on loan and four are for sale. New Road Sealing Carelessness on the part of motorists in taking corners at speed has disturbed the new sealing work recently completed in the various parts of the borough. By exercising greater care until the newly-prepared surfaces have time to set, motorists will be cooperating with the council in the renovation of the roads and conserving public assets. Worries of Farmers “The care of livestock is one of the farmer's greatest worries at present, particularly in regard to crutchlng,' lambing and shearing, because of the lack oi assistance,” stated a farmer in his evidence before the No. 4a Armed Forces Appeal Board. “Farmers are already discussing the lamb position for next season, and it is obvious that they can’t afford to have so many lambs next season unless there is the ’ elp available to care for them,” he added.
