FAT CATTLE FIRM All classes of stock were well represented at the fortnightly stock sale which was held yesterday at Temuka. The fat cattle comprised about 90 head and included to the entry were several pens of outstanding bullocks. The market was again a keen one, values being fully up to the late good rates. A large enti-y of good quality store cattle sold very keenly, especially yearling to three-year-old steers of good colours. The demand for dairy cattle was better than at the last sale, about 50 head changing hands during the day. Two full races of fat sheep were offered to butchers, but if anything the market was not the equal of last week’s. Good sales were made with practically a complete clearance. There

was also a keen sale for pigs. Values were:— Fat cattle —Steers, best £l7/0/0 to £l9/17/6. medium £l5/0/0 to £l6/12/6, light £l2/0/0 to £l4/12/6. Cows, best £l2/0/0 to £l3/17/6, medium £9/0/0 to £ll/12/6, light £6/12/6 to £B/2/6. Heifers best £lO/0/0 to £ll/12/6, medium £B/0/0 to £9/7/6, light £6/12/6 to £7/7/6. Store cattle—Three-year-old steers, Shorthorn to £lO/8/0, two-year-old steers £5/0/0 to £7/12/6, two-year-old heifers £5/0/0 to £6/17/6, yearlings £2/10/0 to £4/17/6, calves £2/0/0 to £3/15/0, empty cows £4/0/0 to £7/0/0. Dairy cattle—Springing heifers £6/0/0 to £9/0/0, springing cows £6/0/0 to £lO/10/0, cows to profit £5/0/0 to £B/0/0.

Fat sheep—Wethers, extra good 40/to 44/4, prime 35/4 to 38/1, good 30/to 32/7, light 26/- to 29/-; ewes, best 30/- to 32/7. medium 27/- to 29/4, light 22/- to 25/-. Store sheep—Crossbred fan. ewes 23/3, f.m. ewes to 18/10, I-bred 2-tooth ewes to 20/10, 4-tooth ewes to 21/4, mixed sex hoggets 20/8, 2-tooth wethers 17/6.

pigs—Extra good weaners 26/- to 32/-, good do. 18/6 to 24/-, medium do. to 16/-, stores 26/- to 30/-, light porkers 32/- to 40/-, medium baconers to £3/11/6.
