BOWLING WEST END CLUB

Good Year Experienced Officers For Coining Season At the twenty-eighth annual meeting of West End Bowling Club there was a good attendance of members. The president, Mr C. J. Dewar, after welcoming those present, summarised the year's work. The season compared more than favourably with the last three seasons. This was more or less gratifying, considering that during the season the British Empire was passing through a crisis. The club felt honoured that two of its prominent members, Messrs I. Maclaren and T. Gunn, had joined the active forces and gone overseas. He felt that even during these trying times the relaxation derived from bowls was very helpful towards keeping up the morale of the community in general. The annual report and balance-sheet were presented, and the outgoing committee was complimented on the very satisfactory position of the club. Election of Officers The election of officers resulted as follows: Patrons, Messrs W. G. Tweedy, A. H. Tonybee and T. Simon; president, Mr C. J. Dewar; senior vicepresident, Mr H. Wilson; junior vicepresident, Mr A. Adkins; auditor, Mr T. Forrester; secretary, Mr D. A. Oram; treasurer, Mr W. Smith; committee, Messrs J. Fitzgerald, J. Gunn, F. Davey, C. Harding, W. It was recommended that the Centre delegate be instructed to vote lor a sole selector, and also that the best players be selected for South Canterbury representative teams. It was unanimously decided that the club enter for all Centre competitions. It was decided that two coaches be appointed this season, Mr R. G. Sampson ■ for evening players and Mr C. Harding for afternoon players. The president moved a special vote of thanks to the Ladles’ Club for the very generous support given to the men’s club during the season.
