Canadian Air Expansion
(Rec. 7.3 p.m.) OTTAWA, July 28. The Air Minister (Mr C. G. Power) who returned from Britain said Canada was increasing her air force strength overseas by the formation of 12 hew operational squadrons and the organisation of a second army co-operation squadron for service with the Canadian Corps making a total of 25 squadrons In Britain. He said it was arranged to have Canadians fill the increasing number of higher commands in Britain and fight together more as a unit. A personnel officer will be appointed to watch the special in/erests of Canadian airmen in Britain. Mr Power said an increased quota of commissions will be made available to wireless operators and air gunners. Mr Power announced that 13 of the 25 proposed all Canadian air squadrons were already operating—ll of them under Canadian commanders. Negotiations have opened for the extension of the Commonwealth's air training plan beyond April, 1943, which was the month originally fixed for its terfntaation.
