A new Metropolitan district is proposed in a Conference remit to be moved by representatives of the Waikato Racing Club. The idea is that the Auckland District should be divided, the new district to include that portion south of Mercer. The Waikato Racing Club would be the new metropolitan body, and the district would include Bay of Plenty. Matamata, Ohinemuri, Rotorua, Te Aroha, Thames, Walpa. Waikato Hunt and RotoruaBay of Plenty Hunt. If the remit were passed th eonly clubs in the Auckland District would be Auckland, Avondale. Whangarei, Franklin and Pakuranga Hunt.

A splendid ’chaser of a few years ago was Luna Lux. who in one jumping season won the Hawke’s Bay Steeplechase and then went on to Wellington and ran second to Omeo in the big event, to follow up in a similar position to Thurina in the Grand National. Had it not been for unsoundness he might have proved one of the best cross-country horses to race in the Dominion. A half-brother, Pertinax (Lord Warden-Caligo), only four years of age. was successful in the Melville Steeplechase at Waikato and paid the best dividend of the day. He was purchased among the Flaxmere lot at the 1938 yearling sales by Dr. A. McGregor Grant with the intention of making him into a jumper.
