RICCARTON NOTES

GOOD JUMPING (Special). CHRISTCHURCH, May 21. S. Barr provided the interest in the work at Riccarton this morning, when lie schooled two jumpers. They were both ridden by A. Leach, still a trifle sore from the effects of his fall witn Point Blank in the steeplechase at Washdyke on Saturday. Night Dress was given a preliminary over the two pony hurdles, after which he jumped the lour schooling hurdles. He hesitated a little at the first but cleared it well, going on in very attractive style over the other three. From this good beginning he may develop into a capable performer among the jumpers, and with his staying form on the flat, no hurdle journey should be too long for him. Recollection jumped four brush fences at a sound pace. He gave a great exhibition and he looks a first class prospect for steeplechases in the winter. S. Barr contemplates giving Night Dress his first race over hurdles at Ashburton next month, when Recollection will make his debut as a steeplechaser. After that a trip to Trentham is in view in July, while Hurry Girl may accompany them, for some of the minor races on the flat. Lord Midas and Master Flash, looking in good health after a spell, are back in work, with G. Ridgway’s team. They should be ready to race about July. The two-year-old filly Penny Whistle, by Myosotis from Penny Wise, a halfsister to Not Out, has rejoined F. A. Roberts’s team. She has been spelling since February, when she had her only race, and she will be got ready to resume racing in August with prospects of being a good three-year-old. H. and A. Cutts have Shikari and Wild Talk in strong work. The former may be ready for the Grand National meeting. Wild Fox, who is recovering from the injury she received when she was galloped on in a race at Easter, is being hacked on the roads preparatory to resuming work. The Defoe filly, Lady Derby, was to have gone to the North Island to race, and she was nominated for the Wanganui meeting. The plans have been changed, as she was sore after racing at Washdyke, so arrangements have been made to spell her. The following Riccarton horses have been nominated for the Dunedin meeting. Red Dragon, Thoraide, Waka, Mungatoon, Liane, Good Health, St. Cloud, Flame Queen, Lights Out, Dividend, Prudent Prince and Paper Note. In addition to this lot, Donadea and The Sandwichman have been entered for the last day. Two members of the team of H. and A. Cutts, the two-year-olds, Willow Wood and Full Pitch, were gelded this week, and they will be spelled before being put in work for spring racing. St. Cloud has done no racing since she ran third at Reef ton last month, but H. Nurse has her very forward for the Dunedin meeting. She is partial to a soft track. Trench Fight, who was lame after his race at Washdyke on Saturday, is to be blistered and given a spell, after which he will be tried again. Density will not have any more racing this season. Though she was not lame, one of her fore legs filled after Saturday’s race at Washdyke. She will have a rest but she will remain at D. Cotton's stable, where she will receive daily attention. R. Wilson is handling a yearling filly for Mr J. M. Samson, and she is now a regular visitor to the tracks. She is a bay, on the small side, and is by the Paper Money horse. Guarantee, while her dam. Privet, bred in Australia, is by Rizio from Tiger Rose, both English Importations.
