TWO MINES IDLE
Agreement Nullified Reasons For The Stoppage By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, November 25. Although arrangements had been made with the management of the various mines in the district to work to-day and to observe December 23 as the King's Birthday, there was no work done at the Rotowaro and Macdonald mines. The two mines were idle for a separate and different reason. At the Rotowaro mine the miners assembled before work was due to commence and discussion took place regarding statements made by the management at the hearing of appeals before the Hamilton Man-Power Committee on Friday last. It is understood that tlie men protested against the statements and decided to abstain from working for the day. At the Macdonald mine the stoppage of w'ork was due to a local dispute concerning the payment of truckers. At the Pukemiro, Glen Afton, and Renown mines work was carried out as arranged. The arrangement to work to-day and to observe December 23 as a holiday was mutually agreed to on account of Christmas Day being on a Wednesday. The alteration will permit the mines being closed down on December 21 and the miners will thus enjoy an additional week-end in the holiday period.
