RENOVATION OF HATS
Dyes are good friends in the renovation of hats. There are straw hat dyes that are quite easy to apply and can be obtained in shades to bring the hat up-to-date, at least so far as colour is concerned. To renew a white straw hat use a cream made of the juice of a lemon and flowers of sulphur. This cream needs to be rubbed on with a small clean brush and rinsed off with cold water. The hat should be placed on a flat surface to dry. Stockings change their shades with the seasons and you may have a number of good pairs that are not the right tone to go with your new clothes. There are reliable stocking dyes that will give your hose just the tints that are now m fashion. An important item hi the summer wardrobe is a mackintosh, and you may have one of those smart white ones left over that you think is too dirty to be brought into use once more. Dip it in water, rub it well over with white soap, roll it up and leave it in water for an hour. Then swill it with plenty of clean cold water, place on a coat hanger and hang out to dry.
