Offer to General Pershing President Roosevelt is reported to have offered the post of Ambassador to France to General John Pershing, who commanded the American Expeditionary Force in France in the Great War. General Pershing, who is 80 years of age, is said to have declined the offer, on account of his health. Cattle From Kenya Nairobi reports that the Masai tribe, the great cattle owners of Kenya colony for whom cattle are currency, cash being considered of little value, has arranged to sell 1600 head of cattle a month to the Supply Board for the duration. The Narok branch of the Masai has started a collection of 2/- a head of cattle sold as a contribution to the fund. The collection gives promise of raising £lOOO annually. Soviet Ambassador to Berlin The Tass Soviet Agency announces that M. Dekanosov has been appointed ambassador to Berlin. Evacuee Ship at Manila The United States evacuee liner Washington has arrived at Manila to collect 900 American women and children there, mostly families of United States naval men. Permission Refused The “China Mail” says that Thailand has rejected the Japanese request for permission to move troops across Thailand and also to establish military and naval bases.
