FIRST AID

Annual Competitions High Standard Revealed The value of a knowledge of first aid was convincingly demonstrated before a large attendance at Timaru Park on Saturday afternoon when the annual competitions conducted by the St. John Ambulance Brigade, South Canterbury Sub-District, attracted much larger entries than has been the case for some years. Competition was keen throughout and a high standard of work was revealed by the contestants. One pleasing feature was the fact that the Geraldine Men’s Division, though formed only a few months ago, annexed the Toneycliffe Cup for squad first aid work against competitors with years of experience. Efficient organisation, for which the District Superintendent, Mr A. H. Toneycliffe, a Serving Brother of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, and Mj- T. H. Innes, secretary of the St. John Ambulance Association, were responsible, resulted in the winners being announced within a few minutes of the last competitors finishing. Mr Toneycliffe announced the winners and the trophies were presented by Mrs J. Shortland, Lady Corps Superintendent. The results were as follow: Lewis Cup for individual first aid work—Mrs J. C. Bentley 45pts 1, Miss Isa Young 42pts 2, Mesdames Grieve, Beynon and Skelton 35pts equal 3.
