MUSIC AND SONG
RECITAL BY PUPILS OF MRS WHITEHOUSE A large audience at the Scottish Hall on Thursday evening, was given something new in recitals when the pupils of Mrs Whitehouse, L.T.C.L., assisted by friends, gave an evening of sacred music. The high standard of work was favourably commented on. The scenes of “Simplicity” with the angels guarding the little children made a delightful setting. In the final item, “The Holy City” was used to illustrate peace and goodwill towards men and the glory of the Heavenly Kingdom. Sacred songs and choruses were woven into a spectacle which will long be remembered by all. The programme was as follows: Opening chorus, “Stranger of Galilee”; pianoforte duet, Sylvia and Owen Jenkin; pianoforte solo. “Soldiers So Brave,” Lois Brill and “Musical Box,” Mavis Necklan; vocal solo, “Baby’s Prayer”, Dolly Young; songs, Mary and Rita Young, Rae Home and Lily Young; pianoforte solo, “ Skylark,” Ronald Oates, and “Loreley,” Noeline Grieve; songs, “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere,” and “He Keeps me Singing, ’ Rae Home, Sylvia Jenkin, Loraine Brill and Alice Donaldson; pianoforte trio, “Chirping Sparrows,” Jessie, Mavis and Leslie Necklan; vocal solo, “Farewell,” Alice Donaldson; vocal duet, “Garden of Roses,” Dolly and Annie Young; recitation, Pat Lowen; vocal solo, “Keep Thou my Heart,” Patty McKenzie; pianoforte solo, “Chapel in the Mountains,” Duncan McDougall and “Ocean Spray,” Leslie Necklan; choir, “Vesper Hymn”, “Lead, Kindly Light,” “Hark, Hark the Lark”; pianoforte solo, “Ave Maria,” Isa Keen; pianoforte duet, “Polonaise,” Noeline Grieve and Roland Oates; pianoforte solo, “Chant sans Paroles,” Sylvia Jenkin; vocal duet, “Bells in Shady Dells,” Annie Young and Amy Gilbert; pianoforte duet, “Concert de Gallop,” Mrs R. O’Brine and Mrs Whitehouse. Scene: “Simplicity,” Lily, Mary, and Rita Young, Margaret Mawhinney; duet. “Sleigh Bells,” Valmai and Edgar Lukey; vocal solo, “Mother’s Prayer, ’ Muriel Garven, and “My Task,” Ngaire Foden; pianoforte solo, “Grand Caprice,” Jessie Necklan. Scene: “The Holy City,” including a cornet solo “Lead Kindly Light” by Duncan McDougall.
