NAZI ACTIVITIES IN U.S.A.
Order For Seizure of Records By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright LONDON, November 21 It was revealed in Washington today that, in accordance with the report of the Dies Committee on UnAmerican activities to Congress, orders had been given for the seizure of the records of all organisations which are pro-Nazi, pro-Fascist, pro-Japanese, or pro-Communisi. The Dies Committee has published a “White Paper” reporting its investigation of German activities in the United States. The report included testimony and documentary evidence designed to show: (1) That German diplomats “took a lively interest in spreading the work of the Transocean news service which was a propaganda agency, capable of engaging in espionage.” (2) That the German Government has undertaken a far-sighted‘policy of economic penetration of both North and South America. (3) That a document seized in New York contained a plan for the organisation of German industry in America after the war and was complete even to the names of the proposed officers. (4) That Dr. Manfred Zapp, the Transocean news agency’s representative in the United States, took “a deep interest in a note in which the United States handled diplomatic relations with Japan and not only advised the representatives of Japan, but also indicated to Germany the steps which were being taken in order to aid German handling of diplomatic affairs.” “Native Fascists” Attacked Mr Harold L. Ickes, in a speech at New York attacked the “native Fascist group” including Colonel Charles A. Lindbergh and Father Coughlin, the “Radio Priest,” who, he said, were trying to disturb United States relations with Latin America. He alleged that the Nazi group in Los Angeles in September chose Colonel Lindbergh for Presidential candidacy. “I don’t say that Colonel Lindbergh accepted, or was even consulted about this precious gift. I am merely stating a significant fact,” he added.
