TEMUKA HOME GUARD

Unit Commander Recommended Committee Meeting A decision to recommend Mr T. Gillies to the Temuka and Geraldine Home Guard executive as unit commander of the Temuka Home Guard was made at a meeting of the Temuka Home Guard Committee on Thursday evening. Those present were: Messrs C D Hayhurst (chairman). A. R. Beck. D. C. Clark, G. C. Tully, T. Lyon. E. R. Comer, J. Woodhead and W. F. Evans (who was elected to the committee at the meeting). “There are many State and local body employees whose services could clearly be made available to the Home Guard or Emergency Precautions Scheme,” stated a letter from the Director of National Service (Mr J. S. Hunter). “It has been decided to allow and encourage them to undertake services in those movements." Mention was made that members of the Emergency Precautions organisation could train with the Home Guard but if an emergency should arise they would be a separate unit. Arrangements were completed for the public meeting which will be held in the Volunteer Hall on Thursday evening when Area Comander, Mr D. Barnes will explain fully the functions of the Home Guard.
