WEA THER SOUTH CANTERBURY FORECAST

FAIR (Special to “The Timaru Herald.”) WELLINGTON, November 20. Winds—Fresh winds from a southerly quarter, decreasing gradually. Weather —Fair to cloudy but with a few scattered showers at first; temperatures milder. Seas —Rough. DOMINION FORECAST General Situation Pressure is low to the south-east while an anti-cyclone is approaching slowly across the Tasman Sea. Westerly depressions are still crossing New Zealand. Forecast Winds—Fresh to strong southerly to westerly decreasing gradually, later tending northerly in parts of the South Island. Seas—Moderate inshore south of Farewell Spit and north of Napier, rather rough to rough elsewhere but moderating slowly. Eastern Tasman Sea—Moderate to strong south-west to west winds and rather rough to rough seas. Weather—Cold and changeable with further showers in most districts, but gradually improving; frosts probable inland in the South Island. TIMARU RECORDS Sun rose at Timaru to-day 5.17 a.m., sets 7.29 p.m. High water at Timaru to-day 7.44 a.m. and 8.11 p.m.

The sun shone intermittently after 2 p.m. There was a cold south-west wind, the maximum temperature being 64 degrees and the minimum 39. For the 24 hours preceding 5 p.m. yesterday 56 points of rain were recorded. Last evening the glass was rising. Waimate (for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday): Barometer, 29.1; thermometer, maximum, 62.5; minimum, 3; rain, 108 points; bright sunshine, 2 hours 48 minutes; wind gauge, miles run in last 24 hours, 107. Yesterday was showery and cool. Dunedin: Rain showers varying in intensity fell at intervals. There was a fresh south-west wind. Temperatures were generally cool with a maximum of 55 degrees. The barometer rose to 29.7 inches (1006 millibars).
