GERALDINE FUNCTION FOR SOLDIERS

Presentations On Tuesday School Children Asked To Sing A civic presentation will be tendered soldiers of the Fourth Reinforcements at Geraldine on Tuesday evening, according to a decision made at a meeting of the Geraldine Entertainment Committee on Monday evening. The chairman (Mr D. C. McKechnie) presided. It was agreed to hold the function on the same lines as the previous one and to ask the school children to contribute songs. The chairman, secretary and Mr P. G. Withers were appointed to make arrangements with the assistance of the works committee. A letter was received from the Geraldine Junior Club advising that at a recent meeting of young people it had been agreed to go into the question of providing a social evening for the soldiers of the district, and asking if they could assist in a function. The Geraldine Returned Soldiers’ Association had also been approached in the matter, the letter said. After discussion it was agreed to thank the Junior Committee and to co-opt them as a sub-committee to orangise socials and dances after civic presentations, providing satisfactory arrangements could be made with the Returned Soldiers’ Association The secretary was asked to thank the Geraldine Players’ concert committee for their contribution. Appreciation of the work of Mr P. M. McKenzie on the committee was expressed and it was agreed to thank him for past services and to wish him luck in his new sphere. Mr F. J. Shearer was added to the committee. MR P. ROWLEY HONOURED A farewell five-hundred party to Mr P. Rowley, who will shortly leave Geraldine, was given recently by Mrs E. Waller at ner home in Raukapuka when many friends were present. Competitions were won by Mr and Mrs J. Gale, Mr and Mrs Edwards and Mr P. Rowley. After supper, Mr Edwards presented Mr Rowley with a small gift and wished him success in his new position. Mr Rowley replied. “STABLEMATES” “Stablemates,” a picture everybody will enjoy, will be screened at the Geraldine Municipal Theatre to-night at 8 o’clock. Featured in the cast are Mickey Rooney and Wallace Beery. A. variety supporting programme will also be screened.
