W.C.T.U.

TIMARU BRANCH A Cradle Roll party was held by the W.C.T.U. at the Sailors’ Rest. About 60 children with their mothers were entertained. Mrs Cave (president) extended a welcome to all and gave a brief outline of the aims of the Union. A bright programme had been arranged by Mrs Heywood (Cradle Roll Superintendent) and her helpers. Afternoon tea was served by members after which a very interesting address was given by the Rev. A. L. Silcock, urging mothers to concentrate on the religious training of their children and hot to leave such training mostly to Sunday Schools. A bouquet was presented to Mrs Heywood by Dawn Bellam. Miss Ethel Sapwell kept the children amused and happy playing games. Each child received a fancy cap and a bag of sweets. Items were given by: Ivan Armstrong (song), Ron Appelby, Charles Turner, Valeria Owers and Mrs McEwing (recitations) and Mrs Keen (pianoforte solo). Mrs Armstrong led the devotions.
